2004-2005 Photo of the Year
Mary Swanson "Twin Spans"
In the Spring of 2005 the job of Lens Lines editor had been unfilled for several months. I told Howard Penn I would be interested if there were no volunteers. No one stepped up.
Early on I realized that I may have been a bit hasty in volunteering. Although I attend most meetings when I am in town, my wife and I travel a considerable amount. Last year we were out of the country for forty days and will be gone at least that much and probably more this year. I had a couple of unplanned visits to the hospital (nothing that will kill me because we got it in time both times) And we are constantly away on shorter trips in the Mid-Atlantic area. Retirement has been a very pleasant time for me.
The editor should be a strong participant within the club and I am not that. I do not compete in the contests---I spent a career in photo journalism competing against other photographers and other newspapers, entering contests and winning a fair share and I also do not participate in the field trips. I feel that editor must make contact with the membership whenever possible, in meetings, on field trips, by telephone. A good club publication reports on the goings on of the club membership. And that requires time that I have but time that I am using in other ways.
So apologies for turning Lens Lines into a long list and not much else. The membership deserves better. This will be my last effort and a new editor will take over in the fall.

From the Annual Business Meeting
Dues - The club voted to increase the individual dues to $25, family membership is $37.50, fulltime students will be 1/2 price at $12.50.
Digital contest - It was voted that we will have an official digital contest starting in September. The details will be worked out by a Digital contest committee that will be made up of at least Chuck, Tim, Howard, Donna, Ernie, and Chip. Howard suggested that people have a choice of starting in the Novice or Unlimited class.
Website - Chip, Rogard and Patrick will be getting together over the summer to talk about enhancements to the website. Chip suggested that it would be possible to have folks enter their digital images in the digital contest via the website.
Slide Contest - will continue as long as there is interest.
Categories for 2006-07 year - We will have four categories next year - people, abstract, wildlife and landscape. Also starting next year all contests (including monochrome and digital) within the month will have the same category requirement. Suggestions for the calendar were Sept - open, Dec - abstract, Jan - open, April - open.
Themes - The themes for next year are: monochrome - round, color prints - taken within 5 miles of your home, slides - perspective, digital - yellow.
Directory for club members - It was decided to make a directory of members available to club members. Only those people that want their names on the list will be included. Patrick volunteered to create a database. Betty will change the membership form to include the option for name inclusion.
Arundel Camera Club meets every Wednesday evening when school is in session. We meet at 7:30 and usually end around 9:00 p.m. at Severna Park High School, 60 Robinson Road, Severna Park in room G144. Meetings are open to the public, but only dues paying members may enter competitions. Annual dues are $25, family membership is $37.50, fulltime students will be 1/2 price at $12.50.
